Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev won his initial trophy for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his maiden championship since the Rome competition and first on a hard court since that period of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six finals, comprising in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to perform at the top level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete positively, supported by an improved serve.

He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to force a third set.

Moutet defended four early chances in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner secured victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
